Admission Essay
Why do you want to study Computer Science, and how have your academic experiences prepared you for this field? (246/250 words)In middle school wWhen I first encountered logic puzzles and strategy games in middle school, I became really fascinated by how complex outcomes can come emerge from simple rules, which honestly felt kind of surprising. This interest slowly turn grew into a curiosity about the ways thathow computationaler systems model and control influence human behavior.
My academic experiences have reinforced this interest and supplied me with a strong quantitative foundation for the study of computer science. In AP Physics, class I started thinking aboutexplored how formulas apply to real-world problems and can predict decisions, or even shape them. I realize computer science isn’t just about coding but also designing systems that interact with society in important ways. One question I think about is how much predictive algorithms reinforce inequality or maybe create new chances, and what design choices actually decide that, which is pretty complicated. In AP Physics, it This class was my first encounter with introduction to the principles that govern how systems act behave under limitsconstraints, like such as comparing classical nNewtonian mechanics, which model predictable systems, with quantum theory, that which introduces probabilistic behavior at the smallest scale. Understanding how Observing that different frameworks describe reality differently depending on under varying conditions taught me that no one single model is always enoughcan explain the real world. Also in Similarly, in AP Statistics, I learnt how applied reggression analysies and probability distributions can be applied to real data sets to draw meaningful conclusions, which was really fascinating and usefuldemonstrated how abstract mathematics connects to real-world decision-making. I think all of these experiences gave me a strong quantitative foundation. I also Beyond the classroom, participatinged in regional math Oolympiads , where I demonstrated has strengthened my ability to think algorithmically and solve complex problems under pressure.
Through these experiences, I realize came to understand that computer science isn’tis not just about coding, but also about designing systems that interact with significantly shape society in important ways. One question I think about is I am particularly interested in how much predictive algorithms can either reinforce inequality or maybe create new chancesopportunities, and what how design choices actually decide that, which is pretty complicatedinfluence these outcomes. Studying computer science will allow me to explore these questions while developing the skills to build thoughtful, impactful systems.
